You'll all be glad to know that Stevie's 100% or maybe 110% just fine. She runs around like she never had surgery, despite Megan and I trying to keep her "activities restricted". Megan did mention that Stevie had been pretty laid back until I got there, though. Guess maybe she was happy to see her aunt who always spoils her. She is still pretty tiny, so her spay scar looks kinda big, but it looks like they did a good job. She also got her microchip and we're sending the registration papers in to the rescue group on Monday. As you know, microchip with no registration is no good! Stevie continues to amaze me, and after playing with her (carefully) today, Megan and I wondered if her eyesight might be improving just a little. Probably in late March or April, we will take her to the canine ophthamologist at Diedre's clinic to get a professional opinion and diagnosis/prognosis. We'll be sure to keep you updated right here at Stevie Central! G

Today was the day Stevie went to the vet to get spayed and microchipped. Megan dropped her off first thing this morning, and Stevie had one of the earliest appointments. She still couldn't pick her up until 3:00, though, and being a first time puppy mom, Megan fretted most of the day -- just as even we more experienced puppy moms do. She picked her up right on time and the vet gave her the usual care instructions, keep her activity level lower than usual for a few days (yeah, right -- how do you restrict a Min Pin, let alone a Min Pin puppy???), don't feed her too much, etc.
Megan said Stevie looks so pathetic, groggy, etc. She obviously doesn't feel too great and has elected to stay in her crate with her Pooh Bear blankie for now. She does get slightly excited when Megan puts a couple of "snibblets" in her bowl... go figure. Ha.
I have a business meeting tomorrow, but I'll probably drive into Austin to see Stevie and Megan, who needs reassurance that Stevie is okay. Don't forget, not only is she a first time dog mommy, she also hasn't had to deal with spay/neuter issues for many, many years.
I'll post a report tomorrow night so you all know she's fine.

Happy Valentine's Day! Here's a funny Stevie story for your Valentine's Day amusement: Sometimes at bed time, Stevie is still all wound up, so Megan has her begin her night in her crate. During the night, Stevie will "rattle her cage" if she has to go potty, so Megan will get up, let her out and take her in to the potty papers, then they both go back to the bed for the remainder of the night. Last night they did this routine, and when Stevie started making a racket in her cage, Megan stirred, got up, put her glasses on and went into the bathroom (where the potty papers are), fully expecting to be followed by Stevie. But she turned around, and... no Stevie. She called for her once, then again, then went back to the bedroom to see what was up. There was Stevie wiggling her little black and tan self under the covers. She had climbed up the doggie stairs (at which she is extremely proficient now) and gone to get under the blankets... evidently she didn't have to pee, she just wanted to snuggle. :) Dogs are so smart. Hope you enjoyed your day with someone(s) you love! G

Megan says that some days everything fabric in the apartment is wet... No, Stevie is not regressing in her potty training. She just loves to lick everything that is some kind of fabric. Denim, flannel, twill, cotton, terry, etc., etc., etc. Megan asked if I thought it was because Stevie was taken away from her mother too soon. I'm no expert, but I suppose that's as good a theory as any. Megan got home a bit late for a walk, so they played fetch with every toy in the house for over a half an hour. I told Megan that the Westminster Dog Show was on today and tomorrow. While we were talking on the phone, we both switched over to the dog show and started picking out our favorites together. At one point, she stopped and said, "I can't believe you have me watching DOG shows!" Heh, heh, heh. It all starts with a puppy... G

Check out photos in the gallery of Stevie and "Mr. Bluefoot". This is the toy she loves to carry around with her everywhere she goes.
Megan has begun to reduce the size of the area where she puts "potty papers". She said that while Stevie is doing well (she judges where to go by hearing the paper under her feet and sniffing where she's been before -- yes, papers get changed twice daily, sometimes more). That's all fine and good... but... sometimes her feet are on the papers and her other body parts are not... It's a learning process.
:)
