Check out the Gallery for a couple of new pix that Megan sent. These will have to hold you until we take birthday photos next week.
Cheers!

 Stevie, Day 294 - Thursday, 08/23/07

Another ROAD TRIP for Stevie today. Megan put her crate into the car and took her to visit a friend. Evidently, the friend hadn't seen any pictures or checked the blog. As Megan got her out of the car, the friend came out of her house and exclaimed, "You didn't tell me she was CUTE!" Whereupon, Stevie took a big dump on her front lawn. Megan was cleaning it up and the friend said, "Is that it?!!!" Nice thing about small dogs is they do generally have small poop. [I say "generally" because I know some folks with small dogs who could put a Rottweiler to shame.]

The friend also saw Stevie doing her little "run around, run around, run around in circles" thing, and asked, "Does she always turn counter-clockwise?" Megan hadn't ever really given it any thought before. But after that query, she watched Stevie more closely, and the answer is, yes, she does turn around and around counter-clockwise every time. It got Megan to thinking about whether it held any specific significance. Is it because she can see out of one eye better than the other one? Or perhaps it's an indication of brain hemispheric dominance. We will likely never really know, but it is interesting to note.

Meanwhile, Stevie couldn't care less. She already knows she's cute and plays it for all it's worth. She probably turns around the same direction every time just to see if we silly humans will notice. And once she thinks we think we have it figured out, she will likely do something different just to throw us off...

Another Post Script - Stevie, Day 292

I have been unceremoniously been informed that I got Stevie's "nun" name wrong. It's supposed to be "Sister Mary Flatula" because, according to my Megan, that sounds "more Latin" than "Flatulence". Nevertheless, the origin of the name (and a common thread) should be rather obvious.

Stevie, Day 292 - Post Script

Oh, yeah, for those of you who are keeping track, Stevie has a "nun" name... I am apologizing in advance to any and all who may be offended by this, just consider the source (i.e., one sarcastic, irreverent, un-pc middle-aged converted cat person). Are you ready?

It's...

Sister Mary Flatulence...

Hey, I *said* I was sorry! G

 Stevie, Day 292 - Tuesday, 08/21/2007

Trying to find time to get caught up... Megan and I took off on Friday afternoon (8/17) to go get our respective hairs cut. Or hair cuts. Whatever. We bundled Stevie up for a ROAD TRIP! Stevie was very excited, but well behaved -- probably much more so than we were, I think.

We introduced Stevie to our hairdresser, Patricia, and another stylist (Leslie) who was there. Naturally, she was a hit (what did you expect???). We took her outside though because the salon owner is a poop and we didn't want to get Patricia in trouble for having animals in the shop. Animals, indeed. Stevie doesn't have any clue whatsoever that she's not a human.

In any case, Megan and I took turns walking Stevie outside -- lots of new things to smell, grass to tinkle on, etc. What fun! It started pouring down rain just as we were leaving. Stevie was not too impressed with the noise it made on the car.

On the way home, we stopped at a random veterinary clinic (it was on the right side of the road) to get Stevie's nails trimmed. Megan and I try to do it, but it takes both of us, and I think because Stevie is blind, it scares her more than most dogs, making it really difficult, even with both of us working at it. Well, they all LOVED Stevie, of course (do you see a pattern here?), and did a really great job on her nails. And we were SO proud of her... she was a very good girl.

She is getting bolder about jumping up onto and off of things in the apartment, and she's still as rambunctious as ever. We did manage to play scrabble again, but I tell ya, we need a new set of rules when one of the players is a blind puppy who makes it all up as she goes along. Hmmm.

Next week [August 28] is Stevie's first birthday. Megan wants to have a party on Labor Day weekend, so we are going to do something special for Stevie. I don't know what, because dog knows she already has enough t-shirts, coats, jackets, toys, food, treats and dog knows what all else... Maybe we'll get her some "frosty paws" dog ice cream. Or just a lick or two of my fudge bomb pop... We'll see.

It's hard to believe she's a year old already. Megan will have had her at the apartment for a year in late October or November, I forget which. Guess I'll have to read the dates back at the beginning of the blog. [In my next life, I'm going to put in for more Random Access Memory...]

While we both forgot our cameras for this Road Trip, I can assure you that we WILL have birthday photos at the end of the month.

Until then, in the words of my hero Cesar Millan, "Stay Calm and Assertive!"

Hugs and cheers!
